What We Do
In support of the mandate of ABBA Canada, Spirit of Adoption Alberta provides opportunities to support the adoption journey through financial aid and awareness. Ultimately, our hope is to facilitate sons and daughters coming home to their forever families in Alberta.
Susan has the privilege of being a stay at home mom to three children. Ella and Hunter were born of her tummy and Jaden of her heart through adoption from the United States. Ella is nine, Hunter is seven, and Jaden is five. She and her husband Blair have been married for twelve years. Susan is very passionate about adoption and excited to have the opportunity to help other families on their journey. Adoption changed her life in a way that she hopes other families have the opportunity to experience. Spirit of Adoption Alberta was a vision placed on her heart and the belief that we are all "adopted" into God's family is the foundation of grace from which Susan wishes to extend this love to others.
Ephesians 1 4-5
Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.
Paige is a stay at home mom to seven children. The first four by birth and the next three by adoption through China's Waiting Child Program. Her children range from four years old to seventeen years old. She has been married to her high school sweetheart, Tim, for twenty-one years. Paige has been passionate about adoption for a long time and have seen the blessings and growth that adoption can bring to a family. As a family, they were called to adopt and now as a mother she feels called to advocate for adoption. Paige shares the vision for Spirit of Adoption Alberta and is excited to see where God will lead.
1 Samuel 16:7
The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
Wendy Robinson, BSW has been the Program Director for Christian Adoption Services for over 20 years. She has a broad general knowledge of how adoption works for families in Alberta. She works with over 100 families a year considering Private Licensed or International Adoption. She speaks to groups regularly about the realities of International adoption in an open and honest way. She has travelled to Africa, China, the Caribbean, and Romania so that she has a sense of the conditions where children live, the impact of orphanage care, and the realities involved in bringing a child in need of a family, home to Canada. As the Director of Christian Adoptions, she has followed thousands of children as they adjust to life in their new family and has a depth of knowledge and experience in understanding the issues children and families face raising a child of another race, managing developmental delays, and attaching when a child comes into a family. Wendy worked for many years with birth parents choosing to place a child for adoption and has some sense of the huge loss a mother faces when she makes an adoption decision. Personally, Wendy is a mother and grandmother. In her 25 years as a foster parent in Alberta she parented more than 150 children. She has come to learn how well children and families can adapt to change with training and encouragement. She knows what an amazing blessing a new child can be to an adoptive family, and how difficult the waiting journey can be.
